Season Cancellation :(

7 Jul 2020 by Gabi Fisher

To our wonderful RJFC Community,

As you would have heard, the State Government today announced that we will return to full Stage 3 restrictions from tomorrow night for 6 weeks.

As such we received the following information from the MPJFL:

“Good afternoon all players, clubs, umpire groups and league executive members,

As you would have heard the Premier of Victoria announce today, the Melbourne Metro area (including the Mornington Peninsula) has now gone into lockdown for at least a 6 week period.

This means that our home and away season for 2020 has now been cancelled.

The trainers course that was to be held this Saturday 11 July is also cancelled.

We understand the frustration all this brings, however, the MPJFL has always stated that we will follow the guidance and authority of the Victorian Government firstly.

We want to thank all clubs for the hard work in preparing for this year. We really feel for our club volunteers, the kids, and everyone involved in our great game, but we have to do the right thing in regards to the health and safety of our community. Please let it be known that we are already preparing and working hard for season 2021.

The MPJFL will send out further information regarding all other pressing issues in the next few days, but for now please stay safe and try to remain positive."

The RJFC Committee is absolutely devastated for our footy community and especially our players.

*Thank you to our dedicated, generous and hard working Committee who, as late as last night, were meeting to sort out logistics for Round 1 on Sunday. The hours that have gone in to preparing for a very different season were enormous. You are all legends!

*We thank our wonderful Coaches, Team Managers, Trainers and Runners who have also been working very hard behind the scenes with their respective teams. All volunteer their time for our kids. Legends as well!

*Thanks also to the Senior Club who were happy to help by running the canteen. It’s great to see both Clubs working together.

*To our players and parents, we thank you for your support during this tricky time.

*Thanks to the MPJFL for persisting in trying to get a season happening for our kids.

It’s too early yet to discuss refunds – we will advise in due course. Let us recover from the shock first!

Please everyone stay safe and well and we wish everyone the best. We will see you all in Season 2021!

GO BUDS!
